Hen Felin, Dyffryn
Originally the Old Mill was a two storied dwelling. There are two legends, one that 100 years ago Lady Cory, of Dyffryn House, wishing to have an uninterrupted view of the country side, instructed that the Old Mill should be reduced to a single storey, the second explanation is that the lower storey was filled in to reduce the risk of flooding. The resulting bungalow was bought at auction 40 years ago, the upper floor reinstated and the building sympathetically restored.
Yr Hen Felin, The Old Mill, was a flour mill that served Dyffryn House, a stunning stately home recently acquired by the National Trust. Two acres of cottage garden provide a space for relaxation and sketching. The garden boasts many seating areas, a secret garden, a bridge over the river, a wishing well, a two hundred year old oak tree with surrounding seat, wild flowers, a colonnade of rose arches, an extensive vegetable patch, hens, ducks and bees and sheep in the paddocks.
Yr Hen Felin is a traditional Welsh longhouse and lies in an East West axis.
